So I get a call from my manager at the time saying “I need some hot ‘Lil Jon’ish beats for this new girl Ciara.” I was like “Who the F. is Ciara? Give my beats out to someone famous” (LOL) This was just before Ciara became CIARA. I sent him “Like That” and he called me back a week later saying “Ciara LOVED it and we will record it ASAP”. Then he disappears 3 days later and I literally never heard from him ever…wonderful.

I started making beats in May 2001 focusing on techno/house stuff. The first vocal song that I officially recorded in a studio was “Let Go” with Romina. At the time I was pursuing to be a pharmacist and I basically had to make a serious decision, do I focus on school or attempt to be a producer. I was leaning towards school because, come on, what are my chances of becoming a successful producer…slim to none.

This all changed one night in December 2001 when Louie Devito came to Philadelphia to spin at club Egypt (Remember Egypt???? So many good memories lol til it literally burned down to hell). He was like hot sh*t back then with his New York Underground CDs which actually sold… A lot.

I emailed Louie a day before the event and said dude PLEASE play my track and sent him the mp3. He actually replied “Cool, bring me the CD and I’ll play it” and he did like he said. That moment basically changed my life forever. Hearing your track played in a huge club which is PACKED and the biggest selling DJ is playing it too? Damnnn, screw pharm school! haha.

Even though it was a crappy track (I’d hate to talk bad on “my baby”), I mean it’s completely over compressed, un mastered, not in tune and so on..This track really bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it
